NEAREST CITY = Bridgman
WARREN DUNES STATE PARK offers the recreational enthusiast 1,950 acres of opportunities along the beautiful shore of Lake Michigan. Rugged dune formations rise 240 feet above the lake with spectacular views from almost every angle. Sandboarding, hang gliding and beach activities are popular here. The park has 2 miles of shoreline, more than ample parking, consessions, 6 miles of hiking trails and is open year-round. Warren Dunes are located 2 miles south of the city of Bridgman just west off Red Arrow Highway.
The park is fairly large with over 300 camp sites and even mini-cabins are available. In fact, the park has 180 modern dune campsites and 122 semi-modern (no electric or showers) beach campsites. There are several picnic areas, a picnic shelter for rent and a great swimming beach located on a very large fresh water lake! The concession stand is open from Memorial Day thru Labor Day, with food, beverages and a gift shop.
Sandboarders will find many good runs with easy access and some great hidden locations if you're willing to hike around to find them. Some of the tallest and steepest slopes run right down to the parking lot with a full view from the parking areas of a plethora of large dune faces. Sand quality is better in some areas than in others but it's all well worth riding. This area has a lot of variety to suit all types of sandboarding preferrences. Why they aren't hosting regular sandboard competitions yet is a mystery. But we believe they will in the near future.
